Ghost In The Shell (2017): Review
Visuals:
From the aesthetic standpoint this movie was top-notch. The graphics were eye catching, and breathtaking. The special effects were immersive and accurately portrayed the futuristic feel that this movie is based upon. Throughout the movie the visuals were seamless and fluid. I would re-watch it solely for the graphics. Yet, it does feel that the focus is more on the aesthetics. In a sense, the visuals are overcompensating for the elements that fall short of expectations. Overall, I give the visuals a rating of 8.5/10.
Acting/Portrayal of Characters:
With the talented cast of actors I was definitely hoping for a more passionate portrayal of the characters. Though they are depicting cyborgs, there was a lack of human and context emotion. The acting seemed shallow and the movie’s characters were very cold and cardboard-like. I give the acting/portrayal of characters a 4/10.
Plot:
In my opinion, this movie is good if you want a feeler for the original series. That being said however, it certainly lacked the thought provoking element and deeper morality aspect that the original contained. I would have liked to seen more independence with the plot as it seems spoonfed to the viewers. For the first hour of the movie the vital plot points were too spaced apart and provided a sense of dullness. And for the last half-hour of the movie they compressed the points too tightly; it felt as if they were smothering the viewer and not giving them time to process the important, vital events. I give the plot a rating of 6/10.
Final Notes:
Visuals: 8.5/10
Acting/ Portrayal of Characters: 4/10
Plot: 5/10
Average: 5.8/10
